The Ultimate Wedding AV Checklist for Dubai Brides (Sound, Lights & Stage — What You Actually Need)

Let's Talk About the Thing Nobody Puts on the Mood Board

You have pinned 400 photos on your wedding Pinterest board. You know exactly what your centrepieces will look like. You have tested seventeen shades of blush and landed on the right one. You have a spreadsheet for the seating plan that has its own colour-coded system.

And then someone asks you what microphone you want for the ceremony and you go completely blank.

Totally normal. Wedding AV is one of those things that nobody thinks about until it becomes a problem — and by then it is usually the night before or, worse, during the ceremony itself. We have seen it happen at beautiful, carefully planned Dubai weddings. The audio cuts out during the vows. The DJ's speakers aren't powerful enough for the ballroom. The speeches sound like they're being delivered from inside a cardboard box.

This checklist exists so that none of that happens at your wedding. It covers every piece of AV equipment you actually need, in plain language, with honest advice from a team that has handled weddings across Dubai and the UAE.

The Ceremony Sound Setup

The ceremony is the most emotionally loaded twenty minutes of your entire wedding. Every word of every vow, every note of the music you chose, every "I do" — all of it needs to be heard clearly by every single guest in that room or garden or rooftop terrace.

What you need for the ceremony:

A wireless lapel microphone for the officiant. This is non-negotiable. The officiant is speaking continuously throughout the ceremony and needs both hands free. A lapel mic clips discreetly to the collar and ensures every word carries to every corner of the venue without anyone having to strain.

Wireless handheld microphones for the bride and groom — or alternatively, a second lapel on each. Whether or not you want microphones on the couple depends on the venue size and how intimate you want the moment to feel. For outdoor ceremonies or larger venues, it genuinely makes a difference.

Appropriate speakers for your space. A garden ceremony for 80 people needs a very different setup to an indoor ballroom reception for 300. The Soundtribe team will always size the system to your space — not upsell you on equipment that overpowers the room.

A music source connection for your ceremony playlist. Whether you're using Spotify, a live musician's feed, or a pre-recorded track for the processional, this needs to be properly integrated into the sound system before the day — not plugged into a Bluetooth speaker someone found in the hotel lobby.

The Reception Sound System

The reception is where the audio requirements jump up significantly. You're going from intimate ceremony sound to full evening entertainment — speeches, DJ sets, background music during dinner, and potentially live performances.

For the speeches, the same principles apply: proper microphones, proper amplification, a system that reaches every table in the room. Nothing kills the vibe at a wedding reception faster than a best man speech that half the room can't hear.

For the DJ portion of the evening, the speaker system needs to handle the full frequency range — crisp highs, clear mids, and the kind of bass that makes people actually want to dance rather than politely shuffle near the edge of the floor. At Soundtribe we have RCF and LD Systems speakers available that deliver exactly this, properly powered for the room size.

If you are having a live band at any point during the evening — even just for a first dance performance — a dedicated monitor system for the musicians becomes necessary. This is separate from the main PA and ensures the musicians can hear themselves properly, which directly affects the quality of the performance.

Wedding Lighting — The Detail That Makes Every Photo

Here is a truth that every wedding photographer will confirm: the difference between photos that look like a professional shoot and photos that look like a birthday party is almost always the lighting.

Uplighting is your best friend. Placing LED uplights around the perimeter of your venue, set to your wedding colour palette, transforms even an average room into something that looks like it was designed specifically for your wedding. It's one of the most cost-effective AV investments you can make.

For the dance floor, moving heads and intelligent lighting fixtures create the energy that makes people want to stay on the floor. These are the fixtures that sweep, change colour, and sync with the music — and when they're done well, guests don't even consciously register them. They just feel the energy and keep dancing.

Fairy lights and ambient lighting are gorgeous in photos. Functional stage lighting is what makes your first dance look cinematic on video. You want both, ideally working together with your photographer and videographer's requirements in mind. The Soundtribe team can coordinate directly with your video crew to make sure nothing conflicts.

We have done full lighting productions for Dubai weddings using moving heads, parcans, and blinders — from outdoor venues in Ras Al Khaimah to hotel ballrooms in Dubai — and every setup is tailored to the specific venue and aesthetic.

The Stage — Do You Actually Need One?

Short answer: probably yes, but not always as big as you think.

For the speeches, a raised platform means guests can see the speaker from every table. For a live band, a stage is essential — for positioning, for aesthetics, and for sound separation. For a DJ-only evening, you might be able to skip the raised stage and use a well-positioned DJ booth instead.

Soundtribe uses Eurotruss staging components — European-manufactured modular staging that's the same system used on international tour productions. It comes in various heights, can be carpeted to match your colour scheme, and can be configured to exactly the dimensions your venue and programme require.

The most common wedding stage setup in Dubai for medium-sized events is a 6x4 metre single-level stage at around 60cm height. It reads well in photos, it gives great sightlines from the back of the room, and it accommodates a DJ setup, a band, or a speaker podium without feeling cramped.

The Microphones — A Quick Guide to What Goes Where

Weddings typically need at least three to four microphones, sometimes more:

Officiant lapel mic — for the ceremony. Discreet, hands-free, essential.

Handheld wireless mic for speeches — passed between the MC, best man, maid of honour, parents, and whoever else is speaking. One or two handhelds typically covers this.

DJ or band monitor mix — not a microphone as such, but a separate audio feed that the DJ or band uses to hear themselves. Often overlooked, always necessary.

Optional: a second handheld or lapel for the couple during the ceremony if the venue size requires it.

Soundtribe's wireless microphone inventory covers all of these scenarios. We'll advise on the right setup for your programme — there's no point renting equipment you won't use, and there's no excuse for showing up with less than you need.

We carry updated, cleaned, and tested equipment to every event — because the last thing you need on your wedding day is a speaker cutting out mid-song.
